Are you ready to transform your theory and knowledge from teaching into practice? Then you might be our next trainee or graduate in NIRAS' department for Marine, Geotechnology, Tunnels and Bridges.


As an intern in NIRAS, you get specific tasks, get up close to our projects and become part of a professional and social community with both experienced and young employees. We put together a program for your internship that gives you an instructive insight into everyday life as a consulting engineer, both behind the desk and out in the field.


Kick-start your career

The internship is your chance to kick-start your career. You will gain valuable experience and develop your professional skills. Several of our interns have remained at NIRAS as student assistants and later permanently. Some have also seized the opportunity to continue the collaboration in connection with their bachelor's or specialist writing.


About the job

Our goal is to show you as many sides of our subject area as possible during your internship period. This, among other things, could be:

• Supporting technical reports within known field of expertise

• Partaking development of engineering services, rolling these out on projects and actively

• Undertake selected area of design on projects while closely mentored by one of our leading experts

• Bridging between the engineering disciplines and technological trends, e.g. BIM



In addition, we will show you the tasks away from the desk, which can consist of planning meetings, construction meetings, inspections and supervision on various construction sites.

As an intern in NIRAS, you will play an active role in the projects, where your efforts contribute to the completion of our projects. You will become a natural member of the department and become part of the daily routine in the office. At NIRAS, you are not left to fend for yourself, and we do not expect you to have completed the tasks at the same time as the experienced people around you. To ensure the best possible learning process, you will therefore always be associated with an experienced colleague who can learn a lot from them - just as your other colleagues are also ready to help.


About you

The internship is for you who are students and studying for a diploma in engineering in construction and civil engineering, geology, geotechnics with a passion for tunneling and underground structures. We value:

• Structural Engineering: Focus on courses covering structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, and steel structures.

• Geotechnical Engineering: Courses on soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and rock mechanics are crucial for understanding tunneling in different geological conditions.

• Tunnel Engineering: Specialized courses on tunnel design, construction, and maintenance provide fundamental knowledge.

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Understanding FEA principles and applications for analyzing tunnel structures and soil-structure interaction.

• CAD/BIM Software: Training in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), and excited to partake in a modern integrated design organization enabled by new technologies.
