Ornithologists - All levels considered

We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals with expertise in ornithology, and with experience in either consultancy and/or regulatory sectors and/or applied data analysis, or the hunger to develop these skills.

You will need to be able to work effectively and proactively across a multi-cultural organisation with a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving operating environment. You will have the potential and desire to grow and develop in your role, including developing technical understanding and pursuing continued professional development opportunities. We expect you will contribute to the long-term ambition to grow the UK’s share of NIRAS’ business in the years to come.

We are considering all levels, so this position would suit anyone currently working as an Ornithologist, Senior Ornithologist, Principal Ornithologist, or Consultant / Senior Consultant / Principal Consultant within Ornithology. We would also consider Junior/Graduate applications with a desire to grow their career in this area.


Essential requirements:

The grade of the position will depend on the experience of the applicant, however, an overview of essential requirements is provided below:

  • Relevant first degree (or, exceptionally, substantial relevant experience)
  • Demonstratable expertise and a proven track record in the delivery of data analysis and modelling (including but not limited to the expected CRM, displacement analysis, PVA etc), or the desire to develop these skills
  • Consultancy, government (i.e., regulator and/or SNCB), academic or developer experience
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, project management (particularly in relation to offshore wind farms) such as project planning, project processes, risk management, customer/client liaison, problem solving and project budgets on high value assignments
  • Demonstratable experience of delivering high quality analytical and written work in academic, consultancy or public service
  • Familiarity with marine infrastructure developments and related environmental issues (such as offshore wind)
  • A working understanding of international development or international working environment in developing country contexts
  • Experience of developing written and commercial proposals or quotations in response to client requirements
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with individuals, partners and clients and convey information/data clearly, such as in tenders, reports, knowledge sharing etc.



Employment details

This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week, routinely Monday to Friday), although applicants for part time positions will also be considered. The role would suit remote working, hybrid working, or could be based from one of our vibrant UK offices. For remote or hybrid working a commitment to maintaining regular contact with the wider team through, for example, monthly in person attendance at local hub locations would be expected.
